The Sports Club of St. Francis Institute of Management and Research (SFIMAR) plays a significant role in the overall development of students enrolled in the BMS and MMS programmes. While management education focuses on developing business knowledge and analytical skills, sports contribute to the development of leadership, teamwork, discipline, and resilience, which are essential qualities for future managers and business professionals. Participation in sports helps students maintain physical fitness and mental well-being. In a demanding academic environment, sports provide an effective way to reduce stress, improve concentration, and promote a healthy lifestyle. Activities such as cricket, volleyball, chess, carrom, and table tennis encourage students to balance academic responsibilities with recreational engagement.
Sports also provide practical opportunities to develop teamwork and communication skills. Team-based games require coordination, cooperation, and collective decision-making, helping students understand the importance of collaboration in achieving common goals. These experiences are directly relevant to organizational and corporate settings where teamwork is crucial for success.
Furthermore, sports foster leadership and strategic thinking. Students learn to take initiative, manage challenges, make quick decisions, and perform under pressure. They also develop a spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship, learning to respect opponents and accept both victories and defeats with dignity.
The Annual Sports Day at SFIMAR provides a platform for students from different programmes and academic years to interact, build relationships, and strengthen the institutional community. It promotes inclusiveness, confidence, and personal growth while creating memorable learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Thus, sports are an integral part of management education at SFIMAR, contributing to the holistic development of students and preparing them to become competent, confident, and socially responsible professionals in the future.
SFIMAR carries out its Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) activities through the social club ‘ABHIMAAN’ in association with Kala Sadhana Arts and Charitable Centre. The Institute is guided by the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, who is the Patron Saint of Ecology for his love for the nature and environment. The Institute also carries out the ethos ‘Service through Enterprise’ of its Founders – Society of the Congregation of Franciscan Brothers, which has a strong societal-responsibility dimension in what it does. The VISION and MISSION statements of the Institute not only help in developing students into global business leaders and entrepreneurs but also helps imbibe a deep sense of responsibility in its students, faculty, and staff towards society and the environment. In recent past, Abhimaan Club has conducted donation drive for blind, health camp, blood donation camp, bookmark and eco bag making competition and a Children’s Day celebration for underprivileged children.
At St. Francis Institute of Management and Research (SFIMAR), education is envisioned as a transformative journey that nurtures not only intellectual excellence, but also emotional balance, mindfulness, compassion, resilience, and holistic human development.
With this philosophy, the institution has strengthened its commitment towards student and faculty well-being through the establishment of the SFIMAR Wellness Committee, under which the initiatives of the erstwhile SFIMAR Mindfulness Club are now integrated and expanded. The Wellness Committee reflects SFIMAR’s belief that true learning flourishes in an environment where individuals feel emotionally supported, mentally empowered, socially connected, and physically well. The Committee serves as a dedicated platform to cultivate a healthy, inclusive, empathetic, and mindful campus culture.
Over the years, the SFIMAR Mindfulness Club successfully created meaningful spaces for reflection, positivity, emotional awareness, and inner growth through mindfulness sessions, experiential activities, interactive workshops, motivational talks, wellness drives, and student engagement initiatives. These efforts encouraged students and faculty members to pause amidst academic pressures, reconnect with themselves, and embrace mindful and balanced living.
Building upon this strong foundation, the SFIMAR Wellness Committee continues to broaden the scope of wellness initiatives through structured and proactive interventions focusing on:
• Mental and emotional well-being
• Mindfulness and stress management practices
• Counselling and support systems
• Physical health and healthy lifestyle promotion
• Mentoring and academic support mechanisms
• Peer engagement and inclusive campus initiatives
• Crisis support and student care interventions
• Holistic personality and value-based development
The Committee regularly organizes expert sessions, wellness awareness programmes, mindfulness practices, yoga sessions, mentoring interactions, reflective learning engagements, and developmental activities that contribute towards creating a compassionate and emotionally enriching educational ecosystem.
At SFIMAR, wellness is not viewed merely as an activity, but as a way of nurturing human potential, emotional intelligence, responsible leadership, and inner strength. The institution remains committed to creating future professionals who are not only academically competent, but also emotionally aware, socially responsible, ethically grounded, and capable of leading with empathy and purpose.
“A mindful mind creates a meaningful future.”
The SFIMAR Wellness Committee continues to uphold this spirit by fostering a culture of care, balance, positivity, and holistic well-being across the institution
